This page shows you all of the equipment I use for Beachbody workouts. It is very comprehensive and is in no way completely required to begin a fitness program. Therefore I have slowly added these items to my “arsenal” of equipment. For information on what you need for “bare-bones” equipment, refer to this post on getting started!

Also, if you’re interested in the equipment I’m using for the program “Bigger Leaner Stronger“, this post has everything about the equipment needed for that.

Powerblock Dumbbells:

  • Nesting dumbbells to save space and money
  • Available in 24lbs, 50lbs, 70lbs, 90lbs, and 130lbs (per hand)
  • 2.5-5lb increments depending on the model
  • Very durable (no moving parts)
  • Application: I have used these in every workout program I have done

Resistance Bands:

  • Alternative to dumbbells as they are cheaper and more compact
  • Thicker band, more resistance – you can also loop them to provide more resistance
  • Add variety to resistance routines
  • Application: P90X series

Chin-up/Pull-up Bar:

  • Door mounting
  • Critical for working on your back muscles
  • Modifications available
  •  Application: P90X series, Body Beast

Chin-up Max (Assist):

  • Gives you the ability to do real pull-ups with an assist

  • Application: P90X series, Body Beast

Gaiam Yoga Mat:

  • I recommend Gaiam because I went with a cheaper brand the first time only to have bits of it pull apart
  • 5mm or more thickness is recommended
  • Gives you proper padding and traction for yoga moves and other exercises
  • Application: P90X series, PiYO, any activity involving yoga, Pilates, or core work from the ground
I WANT THIS!

Powerstands (Push-up stands):

  • Eases up tension on wrists
  • Helps support wider stance for push-ups
  • Large, wide handles for palm comfort
  • Simple to take apart and pack for a trip
  • Application: Any program involving push-ups

Foam Roller:

  • Myofascial release for muscle recovery and mobility
  • Alternative to stretching that is more targeted and acts as a deep tissue massage
  • Application: P90X2

Medicine Balls:

  • Find the type (like the above) that aren’t squishy and allow you to balance on them

  • Use for weight add in ab/core/resistance cardio routines
  • Application: P90X2 and P90X3

Shoes:

  • Some kind of cross trainer/court shoes especially for programs involving jump training
  • The models are always changing but Nike Metcons, Reebok Nanos, Inov-8, all make good shoes for this
  • I love my Nike Metcon 3’s

Heart-rate Monitor:

The technology keeps changing for this as well. I have one that is a stopwatch and heart rate monitor and works great. Nowadays you could probably find a device that measures heart rate and steps. Heart rate is important if you’re interested in how many calories you are burning or if you are doing HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and want to know where your max is while you are working out.

Sport Bench:

  •  Adjustable from flat to nearly 90 degrees
  • Quick adjusting hooks
  • Wider and shorter profile
  • Easy to roll and move
  • Application: Body Beast, P90X: One on One

EZ Curl Bar/Weight Plates:

This is an item only used in Body Beast. I pieced together my equipment from sports resale stores and craigslist. I prefer the olympic size bar/plates but standard 1″ work as well. 50 cents/lb or less is a great price if you can find it for the weights!
